What is a Blog ?
Blog is essentially a website where entries are posted on a regular basis displayed in reverse chronological order.Blog is a tool which helps you to showcase your product or service to the locals and virtually to the whole world. It helps to display the menu, distribute the coupons, and much more to attract new potential customers.
Blog is a conversational communication medium where you and your customers can communicate in more personal level by allowing your customers to comment on the video that you posted of a recent wedding event that took place at your restaurant or provide feedback on anything that is relevent to your restaurant.
What is Restaurant Blog Marketing ?
Restaurant Blog Marketing is a process of marketing your restaurant using blog.
Why it is essential for your restaurant ?
Blog is essential for your restaurant because it enables two way communication between you and your customers. You would be able to understand your customers likes and dislikes on a more personal level.
Best of all it is free, and you can literally get your blog ready within few minutes if you put your mind into it.
How can you use it for FREE and right now ?
There are several free blog software out there but I would recommend Wordpress for your blog simply because it has several cool features that you can add on as required later in the future. You can visit at www.wordpress.com and register your restaurant name for a blog. Play around with it and in no time you will have your own restaurant blog at no cost.

Insightful post!
I am wondering if restaurant owners actually have time to blog? How do they keep it up to date, learn the social features. I’m sure the new wave of business owners would be able to learn the social media trades, but what about the ones that are less informed?
I am a Product Developer but the local market space intrigues me and leveraging social media is the restaurant industry is interesting.

Thanks for dropping a comment on my blog.
That is a million dollar question you asked and I am sure lots of
restaurant owners, operators can relate to.
I agree that most of the business owners in restaurant industry don’t have that kind of time to devote in blogs and social media. However they can leverage the mighty dollar by hiring an intern or even a college guy who is familiar to the blogs and social media. With a very reasonable minimum pay he or she would be happy to do it on the side. You don’t have to do any thing except give directions what your objectives are and what results you want from blog marketing. The very best example of independent restaurant using blog is korean bbq restaurant. U can check them out at http://www.kogibbq.com
To keep up with the social media I would recommend them to choose handful of blogs that resonates to their flavour and stick to it. This way they don’t waste their time trying to search the right answer going from blog to blog rather get meat from 2 or 3 blogs. They also can listen to podcasts while driving back and forth to restaurants. They can leverage this time to educate them instead of listening to useless FM talks which doesn’t help their restaurant business at all.
Lastly, as local marketing space leveraging social media is great. It is new kids on the block. So if you can figure out how things work and show it to the restaurants they would be happy to do business with you. It can itself be another industry which never existed 2-3 years ago, where you can benefit by helping fellow restaurant owners.
Good luck .
Let know if you need any help.

Fantastic answer and your blog provides valuable insights for restaurant owners but for myself, someone who is just interested in the local space and how social media can play a role.
I read the about page (maybe I missed it) but what is your background in this space? Are you a restaurant owner yourself?

Tim
My back ground is in Hospitality industry.
I did my Hotel/Restaurant And Tourism Management from Hotel School in Switzerland. shms.com
After finishing my Hotel Management I did my management training at Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta. Since then I have been involved in the restaurant industry some time working in various fast casual restaurants and also opening my own restaurant and selling it later in 2007.
So to answer your question, I should say it revolves around restaurants with a splash of social media marketing.
